Welcome to our table ~ conversations with Sofia Plana

Our rings are carefully handcrafted in Barcelona by the emerging glass artisan Sofia Plana.

Born in 1995 she immerses herself in the captivating world of blown glass six years ago. Her fascination with this art began at the Massana School of Art, where she discovered her passion for stained glass, a technique that, although unpopular among the other students, provided her with a sense of peace and concentration, loosing herself in hours of meticulous work.

Glass ambassador

Her artistic journey focuses on the complete study of various techniques to create unique and practical objects for everyday life.

The quality of her work and her precision have enabled us to achieve a glass ring that stands out for its finesse and comfort.

“In the decorative aspect, my purpose is to reclaim the prominence of glass, a material often discriminated against due to its fragility, despite being one of the oldest, most durable, cleanest, and versatile options. I hope to enhance its visibility giving it the importance it deserves among other materials.” - Sofia

Her creations embrace techniques and materials that have stood the test of time, with a focus on borosilicate glass. She believes that exploring all the possibilities within the same technique is what defines a unique identity in her pieces.

Handed by her mentors

Determined to explore all facets of working with glass, Sofia delved into a fusing workshop in Hospitalet, where she was suggested to experiment with blown glass. After completing a lampwork course taught by Ferran Collado and Agustina Ros, she stayed on as Agustina's assistant, improving essential skills.

“I would also like to thank other artisans like Alexis Vargas, who has supported me greatly at Ferran and Agustina's workshop and has taught me some great tricks.” - Sofia

Is not just about her individual growth; it's also about the tradition of passing knowledge and skills from one generation to the next.

Her atelier: a space for sharing ideas & teaching

“At this moment, I can happily say that I have created a space where sharing ideas, collaborating, teaching, and working together or individually in the art of glass is possible. I am happy to host projects and be able to help and provide the tools to anyone interested in starting or deepening their knowledge about the art of glass.” - Sofia

We are delighted to have witnessed the evolution of her workshop, since its opening in 2022, observing the care and passion she imbues into each subtle change.

Her values of sharing and transmission resonate with ours at momarohé, so we couldn’t be happier to welcome her as the first guest at our table.
